Crossing Boundaries

Boundary 1: The Pacific Ocean
All my anxiety that was built up is finally relieved now that I am here in China for the first in my life! After enduring a 12 hour flight, mom and I landed in Shanghai's Pudong International Airport. We were greeted by dad who was bundled up in his poofy jacket like a olive green marshmallow. It was surprisingly nice to have him come a day early to pick us up after the extremely bumpy ride.
Wow it is freezing here! But the fresh cold air was much needed to soothe my upset stomach from the last served meal on the plane. Mom and I felt uneasy eating during the distressing turbulence in our economy seats. After composing myself for barely a few minutes, the three of us hopped into a taxi to our hotel. The ride was an experience itself.

Boundary 2: Solid White Lines
I'll put it this way. On the freeway, not one car past us nor kept up with us. I was too afraid to say anything aloud for the fear of offending the driver. Our cab driver was a master weaver. I had no doubt he had absolute control of the taxi, just as a weaver could manipulate his hands in unimaginable ways to have his way. It was a ride like no other for me. Solid white lines and dashed white lines have the same meaning here. But that's not what I was worried about. I was so scared to look at the speedometer because I didn't have a seat belt in case he hit the brakes without warning. We would drift on lane lines; for him it was smart to create our own lane when he wanted to scope out the playing field. I'm glad we made it to our hotel alive, although my body was in shock even after coming to a complete stop...Hello Shanghai. Here I come in full force!!
